Standings Update: June 13th

Every night, I'll recap the standings for the groups that have completed a round of games. Didn't do yesterday because Group A had games to play. Show the current standings and my thoughts on what it may mean.

No surprise at the top with Brazil. A relatively straight-forward group for the hosts, they are still on target to top the group. In the 3-way battle for second, Cameroon has the short stick with 0 points and Brazil left on the schedule. Croatia play Cameroon next and whoever wants to challenge Mexico for second will have to get a win from that game. A draw would be disastrous for both teams regardless of how Mexico play against Brazil. If things go to plan, Croatia and Mexico will have a winner-take-all game to finish off the group on June 23rd.

Shock of the tournament with Spain imploding in front of the world's eyes. With Australia on the schedule next and a +4 goal differential, Netherlands should be clear to the next round. Chile and Spain play next and that game should determine second place in the group. Chile will go in only needing a draw while 3 points is a must for Spain if they want any shot of getting out of the group.
