Belgium had a scare for a while but pulled out the victory in the end. They also got helped by Russia drawing Korea. Belgium should be able to secure first in this group against a pair of offensively inept teams. Second place appears to be wide open though. If Algeria can find some goals against Russia in particular, I would favour them to come in second at this point.

Cameroon bombed out in spectacular fashion tonight and is eliminated. Brazil should have no problem dealing with Cameroon and barring a major surprise will finish first. Mexico/Croatia will be the deciding match for the other advancement spot.

Croatia with the goal difference advantage but pay the price for Mexico's surprise draw with Brazil. Mexico can survive and get through to the knockout round with a draw while Croatia has to pick up the victory to prolong their World Cup.

Australia were expected to be in this boat. Spain were not. Both are eliminated at this point though and will play each other to finish off their Brazilian experience. Netherlands and Chile will meet in their final game with first place on the line. Brazil looks set to finish first in Group A and will face the second-place team in this group, something both will look to avoid. Netherlands holds the tiebreaker in goal differential on the strength of their thrashing of Spain so they can settle for a draw while Chile needs a win to win the group and draw Mexico or Croatia in the knockout round.
